A mouthpiece with a perfect tone color that is darker, the tone takes on higher aliquots as it transitions to forte and has a ringing sonic sparkle. Unlike other sponges that don't respond readily to forte, or get downright overwhelmed and the tip "clogs up," the Sponge is definitely not a priori destined for soft slices with the need for a screaming cheap Dixieland sound. It triggers smoothly without annoying clack at the onset of the tone, intones even in the quietest pianissimo, and its particular strengths are its reliable tonality and brilliant intonation without fluctuation over the dynamic range from pianissimo to fortissimo (thanks to the larger tip opening of 147 µm). There is no need to force-fit a soft slice, it just requires a larger airflow compared to e.g. the popular Vandoren B45.
