Strymon Fairfax Class A Preamp/Rack Amplifier

The Strymon Fairfax is a Class A analog drive pedal designed to deliver the tone and feel of a classic tube amplifier in a compact stompbox format. Unlike conventional overdrive or distortion pedals, Fairfax recreates the response of multi-stage tube circuits and an output transformer, producing rich harmonics, natural saturation, and expressive dynamics.

The pedal can deliver everything from a warm, subtle boost to full, saturated overdrive with organic compression. A key feature is the Sag control, which adjusts the simulated voltage response of a tube amp. At lower settings, it adds gentle compression and smoothness, while higher settings introduce a more compressed, spongy, or even slightly gated character.

Controls include Drive (gain level), Level (output volume), and Sag (dynamic response), along with a Bright switch for adjusting high-frequency presence. Internally, the pedal converts a standard 9V DC input to 40V, providing increased headroom and enhanced touch sensitivity. True bypass switching preserves the original guitar tone when the pedal is disengaged.
