The Waterboys are a celebrated rock band formed in 1983 by Scottish musician Mike Scott, who has remained the group's sole constant member. Featuring talent from Britain and Ireland, The Waterboys have explored a diverse range of musical styles over their four-decade career, spanning rock, folk, Celtic soul, punk, country, and rhythm and blues. Their early sound, dubbed "The Big Music", became known for its sweeping, anthemic quality and spiritual depth.
After disbanding in 1993 when Scott pursued a solo path, the band reunited in 2000 and have continued to release albums and tour internationally. Their music is marked by a seamless blend of rock and folk influences—particularly Irish and Scottish folk—reflecting Scott's vision and ongoing evolution with his ever-changing lineup of collaborators.
