The Pretenders are a British rock band formed in 1978, known for blending punk, new wave, and pop influences. Founded by Chrissie Hynde, who remains the group’s constant member, the original lineup also included James Honeyman-Scott, Pete Farndon, and Martin Chambers. After early success and significant lineup changes, The Pretenders earned international acclaim with hits like Brass in Pocket, Back on the Chain Gang, and I’ll Stand by You. Their music has left a lasting mark on rock, and they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2005.
