Dorico Pro 6 Crossgrade — Notation Software for Sibelius and Capella Users

Steinberg Dorico Pro 6 CG is the crossgrade edition of Dorico Pro 6, Steinberg's flagship music notation and composition software. Designed for composers, orchestrators, and engravers who already hold a qualifying Sibelius Ultimate or Capella license, this edition unlocks the full Pro feature set at a reduced price. Dorico Pro 6 runs natively on macOS, Windows, and iPadOS, with a 60-day free trial available from Steinberg.

What Sets Dorico Pro 6 Apart

The Proofreading panel in Write mode scans the score in the background and flags issues with meter, dynamics, and instrument changes without manual intervention. Cutaway scores, pioneered by Berio, Lutoslawski, and Stravinsky, can now be produced with a single click rather than the laborious staff-style workarounds required in Sibelius and Finale. Custom chord symbols and a dedicated chord symbol kerning pairs editor give engravers typographic control unavailable elsewhere.

Technical Parameters

Before purchasing, the crossgrade license, supported platforms, and Pro-exclusive feature set are the key facts to confirm.

  • License Type: Crossgrade — for owners of Sibelius Ultimate (Retail, Professional, Educational, Academic) or Capella (Full version)
  • Supported Platforms: macOS, Windows, iPadOS
  • Pro-Exclusive Features — cutaway scores, coordination lines, custom chord symbols, kerning pairs editor, condensing for doubling players, Library Manager, flow heading overrides
  • New in Dorico 6 — Proofreading panel, fill view, cycle playback, expanded jump bar, Splentino font, Marching Percussion Basics sounds
  • 60-day free trial available from Steinberg

Who Should Buy the Dorico Pro 6 Crossgrade

The Dorico Pro 6 CG edition is the right choice for professional composers, orchestrators, copyists, and engravers who already own Sibelius Ultimate or Capella and want Dorico's automation-driven workflow without paying full retail. Music educators will benefit from the Proofreading panel and condensing for doubling players. Sibelius users frustrated by manual cutaway workarounds will find single-click cutaways valuable. Finale owners should note a separate crossgrade path exists.

Steinberg and the Dorico Heritage

Founded in 1984 by Manfred Rürup and Karl "Charlie" Steinberg, who developed the first MIDI multitrack software. Cubase arrived in 1989 and became the first software to record audio directly to a computer in 1991, then the first to host VST plug-ins in 1996. Dorico was built by ex-Sibelius developers. The Dorico-powered Score Editor ships inside Cubase 14.
