Saxophone Stands
Saxophone stands keep your instrument safely upright when you put it down during a rehearsal, at a concert or at home. On this page, you will find stands for alto, tenor, soprano and baritone saxophones from Hercules, König & Meyer, Revoltage and Soundking. These include traditional tripod stands with an adjustable support, small folding stands that fit inside the bell when folded, and double stands for two instruments at once. With your saxophone on a stand, it does not have to lie on a chair or in its case, so it stays close at hand.
Which saxophone stands should you choose?
- Tripod stand with a support – a universal stand for both alto and tenor saxophones. You can move the lower support to suit the size of your instrument, as on the König & Meyer 14300, Hercules DS530BB or DS630BB.
- Stand that stores inside the bell – a small stand that you fold up and place inside the saxophone's bell, so you can carry it in the instrument case. Hercules TravLite DS431B, König & Meyer Saxxy 14340 and Jazz 14330 work this way.
- Double stand – holds two saxophones or accommodates a saxophone alongside a peg for a soprano saxophone, clarinet or flute. Examples include Hercules DS537B, DS538B and DS533BB.
- Stand for soprano or baritone saxophone – a soprano saxophone sits on a peg (König & Meyer 15290, Hercules DS531BB), while a baritone needs a taller, sturdier stand (König & Meyer 144/1, Hercules DS536B).
What should you look for when buying a saxophone stand?
First, check which type of saxophone the stand is designed for. Most tripod stands with an adjustable support can accommodate alto and tenor saxophones, but soprano, baritone and bass saxophones have their own stand models. If you switch between several instruments, a double stand or a stand with instrument pegs will save you space.
For travelling, a lightweight folding stand that fits inside the bell is a practical choice. Soft pads or velvet lining protect the saxophone's finish from scratches, and some Hercules models have a locking mechanism that keeps the instrument in its support. You can also pair your saxophone with saxophone cases and, for amplified playing, saxophone microphones. You will find stands for clarinet, flute or trumpet in the wind instrument stands category.
