Fates Warning is an American progressive metal band founded in 1982 in Hartford, Connecticut. Widely recognized as one of the pioneers of progressive metal, alongside Queensrÿche and Dream Theater, the band helped shape and popularize the genre. Their early music is notable for blending influences from the new wave of British heavy metal and American power metal. Over four decades, Fates Warning has seen many lineup changes, with guitarist Jim Matheos remaining the only constant member. The current lineup features Matheos, vocalist Ray Alder, bassist Joey Vera, drummer Bobby Jarzombek, and guitarist Michael Abdow. Fates Warning achieved critical and commercial success with albums such as Awaken the Guardian, No Exit, and Parallels, and has released thirteen studio albums to date. Their most recent album, Long Day Good Night, was released in 2020.
