Walrus Audio Lore MKII Guitar Effect
The Walrus Audio Lore MKII Black is a stereo reverse soundscape generator pedal built around five dual-effect algorithms that combine reverse delay, reverse reverb, octave processing, pitch shifting, and time stretching. Powered by Walrus Audio's proprietary MDSP processing platform, it routes effects through complex nested feedback paths so the textures keep evolving rather than looping. Full stereo I/O, three onboard presets plus 127 via MIDI, expression control, and buffered bypass with selectable trails make it a serious ambient workstation for guitarists and electronic musicians.
- Five dual-effect modes pair reverse delay, reverse reverb, octave-up/down reverb, forward reverb, and pitch delays for layered ambient textures.
- Proprietary MDSP platform with effects connected in series through complex nested feedback paths keeps the sound developing.
- Stereo I/O (2 x 1/4" unbalanced in and out) supports mono, mono-to-stereo, and full stereo operation.
- Tweak section exposes Width, Mod Rate (0.1–5 Hz), Mod Shape, Shift, and Ramp, the last two setting the Dive / Rise momentary effect.
- Buffered bypass with selectable Trails or No Trails, 9 V DC center-negative power, 300 mA minimum.
Walrus Audio Lore MKII Black — Stereo Reverse Soundscape Generator
The Walrus Audio Lore MKII Black is a stereo ambient creation pedal that pairs two DSP algorithms at once across five distinct modes, each one routing one effect into another through its own feedback path. Instead of placing a single reverse delay or reverb behind the dry signal, the MKII lets the processed sound feed back into itself, so swells, octave shimmer, sustained pads, and pitch patterns keep evolving as you play. The pedal ships in a black finish with original artwork illustrated by Niall Grant.
Five modes cover Reverse Delay into Reverse Reverb (Mode I), Reverse Delay into Octave-Up Reverb (Mode II), Reverse Delay into Octave-Down Reverb (Mode III), Reverse Reverb into Forward Reverb (Mode IV), and two dueling Pitch Delays that step through 4th, 5th, and octave intervals (Mode V). Feedback and Regen control separate feedback paths in each mode, while the X knob changes function depending on the selected algorithm.
What Makes the Lore MKII Stand Out
The MKII's defining feature is its proprietary Walrus Audio MDSP processing platform, designed in-house to deliver high-fidelity audio with effects connected in series and complex, nested feedback paths. The Tweak section is unusually deep for a pedal in this category: a single Tweak button cycles through Width, Mod Rate, Mod Shape, Shift, and Ramp, letting one knob do five jobs. Holding the Tap/Shift footswitch momentarily changes the pedal's clock rate for the Dive / Rise effect, with Shift adjustable from 0.5x to 2x sample rate and Ramp from 50 ms to 5000 ms.
Signal Architecture and I/O
Stereo operation is built in at the hardware level, with two unbalanced 1/4" inputs and two unbalanced 1/4" outputs that support mono, mono-to-stereo, or full stereo routing. The wet path runs at a 32 kHz sample rate, and the pedal uses buffered bypass with selectable Trails or No Trails modes (Trails enabled by default).
- Inputs: 2 x 1/4" unbalanced — supports mono, mono-to-stereo, or full stereo operation
- Outputs: 2 x 1/4" unbalanced — true stereo output for wide ambient rigs
- Input Impedance: 1 MΩ
- Output Impedance: 220 Ω
- Wet Path Sample Rate: 32 kHz
Control Surface and Modulation
The Tweak section adds a modulation LFO with a rate adjustable from 0.1 Hz to 5 Hz and three selectable shapes: sine, square, and random. Width sets how far the wet signal spreads between the left and right channels, so a mono input can still produce a wide stereo image. A synth-style low-pass filter on the wet signal (Tone control) closes down to let through only lower frequencies or opens up to pass the full range of the signal.
- Modulation Rate: 0.1 Hz to 5 Hz — slow drift to audible wobble
- Modulation Shapes: Sine, Square, Random — three LFO waveforms for different motion characters
- Shift Range: 0.5x to 2x sample rate — Dive / Rise target
- Ramp Range: 50 ms to 5000 ms — from near-instant jump to long seasick glide
Presets, MIDI, and Integration
Three onboard presets (red, green, blue) plus a Live mode (white) are available directly from the pedal, with another 127 presets accessible over MIDI. MIDI clock synchronisation controls delay time from 100 ms to 1000 ms in Modes I, II, III, and V, and drives the sample-rate time-stretching in Mode IV. Every knob is exposed as a MIDI CC, alongside Mode select, bypass, and tap tempo. The expression input can be assigned to any knob or configured as an external tap tempo, and expression assignments save with each preset.
- Onboard Presets: 3 + Live mode — instant recall on the pedal
- MIDI Presets: 127 additional presets — for deep preset banks
- MIDI Type: 1/8" TRS Type A MIDI In and MIDI Thru — plus USB-C for firmware updates
- Power Requirement: 9 V DC center-negative, 300 mA minimum — isolated supply recommended
- Dimensions: 11.9 x 10.0 x 5.8 cm (4.70" x 3.93" x 2.30") including knobs — compact pedalboard footprint
Who Is the Lore MKII For
The Walrus Audio Lore MKII Black is the right choice for ambient and experimental guitarists who want reverse textures, octave shimmer, and pitch-shifted feedback that keep developing rather than repeating. It suits players building larger stereo rigs who need true stereo I/O, MIDI clock sync, and deep preset recall for live sets, as well as studio producers looking for a single pedal that covers reverse delay, reverse reverb, octave reverb, and pitch delay duties.
Walrus Audio and the Lore MKII Story
Walrus Audio positions the Lore as a "stereo ambient creation machine built around reverse delay, reverse reverbs, and pitch shifting," and the MKII is the second-generation evolution of the original reverse ambient platform. The pedal's fairy-tale concept — sounds that have been "told and retold so many times that they come back changed, stretched out, and turned around" — is reflected in the original artwork by Niall Grant.
