Tears For Fears

Tears For Fears

Tears for Fears are an English pop rock band founded in Bath in 1981 by Curt Smith and Roland Orzabal after the end of their previous group, Graduate. Rising to fame in the 1980s alongside the synth-pop movement, they became a leading act in the Second British Invasion. Their debut album, The Hurting, topped the UK Albums Chart and produced major hits like Mad World. Their global breakthrough came with Songs from the Big Chair, which featured chart-topping singles such as Shout and Everybody Wants to Rule the World, achieving multi-platinum sales in both the UK and US. The follow-up album, The Seeds of Love, also went to number one in the UK and delivered international success. Following a split in the 1990s, Orzabal continued the band as a solo project before reuniting with Smith in 2000. Together, they released Everybody Loves a Happy Ending in 2004 and have since toured regularly. In 2022, their album The Tipping Point marked their highest UK chart success in three decades. Celebrated for their influential sound and songwriting, Orzabal and Smith received the Ivor Novello Award in 2021 for Outstanding Song Collection.
