Suzuki Music Manji M-20W E Diatonic harmonica

This new Suzuki MANJI M-20W, 10-hole harmonica has wooden cover plates. The Manji M-20W has the same powerful blow feel as the Manji M-20, but features a more mellow tone, with treble components suppressed. Like the Manji M-20 and the Manji Sky M-20S, the M-20W is tuned as ‘Compromised’ tuning that emphasizes the resonance of chords, which is useful in playing blues and rock with many vamps.

Tone and changes created by the wooden cover plates
Due to the weight and hardness of the wooden cover material, as well as the space created in the wood, it is characterized by a mellow tone. You will be able to feel the uniqueness of the tone, especially when you play long tone or when making percussive expressions. Over time the color of the wooden cover plates may change or become slightly more glossy, making it quite unique, with a personality if it’s own!  Another charming point of the wooden cover plates model is the tone changes over time, or in other words, the instrument grows with you.

Recommended for playing more melodic songs, ballads, slower songs, or when there is a vocalist.

The M-20W has the same body as the classic Manji M-20, made of resin mixed with fibers extracted from trees, achieving both the wood tone and the durability of plastic. The solid body reinforced with wood fibers produces a warm sound that is different from the tone created by a standard plastic body.

Besides, you will never worry about distortion by moisture; traditionally a common problem with wooden body harmonicas.

Suzuki Music Manji M-20W C — This is my first musical instrument ever, and I have only recently started my journey with the harmonica. Even after just a few days, I can say that I am very happy with my choice of the Manji M-20W. I chose it mainly because of its appearance — I really wanted a harmonica with a wooden character. Only afterwards did I start looking into its specifications and learn more about the brand. I really like its sound, but one of its biggest advantages, especially for a beginner, is how responsive the reeds are. The notes are easy to produce and do not require much air, which makes the first steps of learning much easier. I sometimes have difficulty hitting individual holes because they are quite narrow. However, I don't consider this a flaw of the instrument — as someone who is just starting to learn, I simply need to develop better accuracy and get used to the spacing. A separate issue for me is hole 10, which I find a little more difficult to get a sound from compared to the other holes. Again, I assume this is mainly a matter of technique and learning proper breath control. I don't have enough experience with other harmonicas to make a proper comparison, but I am very happy that I chose the Manji as my first instrument. Based on my experience so far, I would definitely recommend this model, especially to anyone who is just starting to learn the harmonica.
