Stylus Pens

A touchscreen pen can be used for basic screen control, handwritten notes or precise digital drawing. A universal passive stylus imitates a finger touch, while an active pen may support pressure, tilt, buttons or palm rejection. These features only work with devices that support them. Before buying, check the exact model of your tablet, phone or computer and the required charging method.

Passive and active pens

A passive stylus needs no battery and suits basic tapping or signing. An active pen provides a finer tip and more features, but has narrower compatibility. A connector or magnetic attachment that looks the same does not necessarily mean the pen will communicate with the device.

What to check in the specifications

• the list of supported devices and operating systems;
• pressure sensitivity and tilt support for drawing;
• tip type and availability of replacements;
• charging, battery life and automatic sleep;
• side buttons and their support in the software you use.

Stylus or separate tablet

A touchscreen pen is practical for mobile notes. For longer illustration and retouching work, a graphics tablet with a larger working area and configurable buttons may be more comfortable.
