Vintage tweed overdrive in a compact pedal

The Revv Dirt Dog Joey Landreth Signature Overdrive brings the harmonically rich saturation of an overdriven late-1940s tweed circuit into a compact analogue pedal. It was developed together with guitarist Joey Landreth, winner of the Juno Award, and captures the sound of a modified amp that Landreth pushed to the edge of its capabilities. The Dirt Dog is aimed at roots and blues players and at session guitarists looking for a vintage overdrive.

What sets this pedal apart

What sets it apart is a circuit with the natural voltage sag known from tube amplifiers. The Bite knob adds upper harmonics to the attack without harsh, piercing treble, while the Tone knob shifts the centre of the midrange – the sound either cuts through a dense live mix, or the mids pull back instead.

The simple control set puts every shade of vintage distortion within the player's reach.

• Gain: a wide range from clean boost to thick vintage distortion — at low settings it drives a tube amp into natural preamp saturation, fully open it borders on saturated fuzz.
• Level: output with plenty of headroom — brings on authentic tube preamp clipping at will.
• Bite: high-end presence control — adds upper harmonics and sparkle in the treble without the frequencies that tire the ear.
• Tone: broad midrange shift — clockwise it delivers a snarling attack with the mids to the front, anticlockwise it pulls the mids back for a fuller, softer sound.

True bypass signal path and power ready for the road

When switched off the signal path stays clean, and the power requirements suit any pedalboard.

• Bypass: true bypass — leaves the original signal completely untouched when switched off.
• Inputs and outputs: 2× 6.3 mm jack on the top edge — cables stay neatly routed even on a crowded pedalboard.
• Power: external 9 V centre-negative supply, 18 mA minimum — works with common pedalboard power supplies.
