Partyboxes

A party speaker is a portable speaker designed for listening to music together at home, on a terrace, or at a smaller event. Models differ in size, power supply, playback options, and equipment for microphone use. Before buying, decide what kind of space you want to fill with sound and how often you will carry the device. Assess volume responsibly with regard to the room, surroundings, and time of use.

Party speakers by space and type of use

In a flat or smaller room, easy volume adjustment and the ability to position the device without blocking a walkway are usually important. On a terrace or in a larger function room, speaker direction and the listeners’ distance become more noticeable. Do not choose solely on the assumption that “bigger is better.” A large model may be impractical at home, while in a more open space you may unnecessarily push a model that is too small to the limit of its capabilities.

If you plan to move the party speaker between rooms, transport it by car, and take it to the party venue, consider the specific product’s weight, dimensions, handle, or wheels. Check the power supply as well. Not every portable speaker necessarily runs on a battery, and battery life may vary depending on volume and the features used.

Compact or larger party speaker

Feature	Compact party speaker	Larger party speaker
Transport	Easier to store and move, suitable when changing locations frequently.	Requires more space; a handle or wheels may help if the model has them.
Typical setting	A room, smaller gathering, or music for a casual get-together.	A larger room or event where the sound needs to reach more people.
Controls	Quick start-up and a clear layout are often preferred.	A larger panel may offer more options, but you should check the features of the specific model.
Placement	Easier to fit beside furniture or on a safe raised surface.	Requires a stable surface and clear space around the device.

Dividing models into compact and larger categories does not automatically indicate anything about their specific sound. Compare the manufacturer’s specifications, the controls, and the real conditions in which you will use the speaker. If you mainly want easy everyday listening, also take a look at wireless and portable speakers; a party speaker makes sense primarily when you will use its format and features for shared entertainment.

Playback sources and microphone use

You can play music from a phone or another supported source, but the available options vary between models. Check the required wired inputs, wireless connectivity, and how tracks are changed. If several people will use the phone during the party, easy pairing and clear controls will help, but not at the expense of control over playback.

A microphone input is useful for singing, short announcements, or hosting. Check whether a microphone is included, how many inputs the device offers, and whether the microphone volume can be adjusted separately from the music. For an instrument or another audio source, confirm compatibility in the documentation for the specific party speaker; the same connector shape does not necessarily mean the same use.

What to check before choosing

Estimate the size of the space and number of people without using volume as the only criterion.
Decide how often you will carry the party speaker and where you will store it.
Check the type of power supply and the conditions for the stated battery life if you need to operate it without a power socket.
Check the supported music sources and inputs for your devices.
For singing or hosting, check the microphone inputs, package contents, and separate controls.
Plan a safe position away from drinks, rain, and places where people frequently walk.

For a smaller gathering at home, a compact model that you can quickly set up and put away may be more convenient. Choose a larger party speaker when you can make use of its size and intended use without unnecessarily restricting the space. Features, resistance to environmental conditions, and accessories vary, so always check them in the details of your selected product.
