Gretsch Drums Energy 5 Piece HWP 20 Black Drumkit

Gretsch Energy 5-Piece Drum Kit — Complete Poplar Shell Setup with Hardware

The Gretsch Energy 5 Piece HWP 20 Black is a full five-piece acoustic drum kit designed for drummers who want the Gretsch sound and build quality in one box. Built around 7-ply poplar shells with a 30° bearing edge, this kit delivers a warm, balanced tone that works across rock, pop, fusion, and studio applications. The black wrap finish and chrome shell hardware give it a clean, stage-ready look. The Gretsch Energy 5 Piece HWP 20 Black is the right choice for beginners, returning drummers, and gigging players who need a reliable, great-sounding kit with hardware included.

Fast-Size Shells and Gretsch Mini Lugs

What sets this kit apart from other entry-level five-pieces is the fast-size shell design — the rack toms are shallower than standard, which means they can be mounted lower for younger or shorter players. The Gretsch mini lugs are a signature visual element, paired with the Gretsch badge on each drum. The 30° bearing edge and 1.6 mm hoops work together to give the shells a focused, responsive attack that holds up under heavy playing.

Poplar Shell Construction — Warm, Balanced Tone

Poplar is a widely used tonewood in drum manufacturing because it produces a warm, even sound at an accessible price point. The 7-ply construction adds durability without sacrificing resonance, making these shells suitable for both practice rooms and live stages.

• Shell Material: Poplar — warm, balanced tone across all drums
• Ply Count: 7-ply — durable yet resonant shell walls
• Bearing Edge: 30° — clean head-to-shell contact for focused attack
• Hoops: 1.6 mm — sturdy triple-flanged style for consistent tuning

Five-Piece Configuration — 20" Bass, 14" Snare, 10"/12" Toms, 14" Floor

The five-piece configuration covers all the essential voices a drummer needs. The 508 × 406 mm bass drum provides a punchy low end without overwhelming smaller rooms, while the 356 × 140 mm snare delivers a versatile crack suitable for rock, jazz, and studio work. The 254 × 178 mm and 305 × 203 mm rack toms offer melodic range, and the 356 × 356 mm floor tom rounds out the low end with a deep, resonant voice.

• Bass Drum: 508 × 406 mm (20" × 16") — punchy, room-friendly low end
• Snare Drum: 356 × 140 mm (14" × 5.5") — crisp crack for multiple genres
• Rack Tom 1: 254 × 178 mm (10" × 7") — high-pitched accent voice
• Rack Tom 2: 305 × 203 mm (12" × 8") — mid-range melodic tom
• Floor Tom: 356 × 356 mm (14" × 14") — deep, resonant low tom

Complete Hardware Pack — Stands and Pedal Included

The HWP designation means this kit ships with a full hardware pack, so only cymbals, a throne, and sticks need to be added to start playing. The included bass drum pedal features a dual-sided beater with felt and plastic options, and the cymbal stands are double-braced for stability on stage.

• Bass Drum Pedal: Fully adjustable — felt and plastic beater sides for tonal flexibility
• Hi-Hat Stand: Included
• Cymbal Stands: Boom and straight — double-braced for stability
• Snare Stand: Included — adjustable basket for optimal drum position

Beginners, Returning Drummers, and Gigging Players

The Gretsch Energy 5 Piece HWP 20 Black is the right choice for beginner drummers, parents buying a first kit, and returning players who want a straightforward, great-sounding setup. The fast-size rack toms make it especially suitable for younger or smaller players who would otherwise struggle to reach standard-depth toms. Gigging drummers will appreciate the complete hardware pack — no need to buy stands and a pedal separately. The 7-ply poplar shells produce a warm, balanced tone that sits well in a mix, whether the playing context is rock, pop, fusion, or worship music. The black wrap finish looks clean on any stage, and the chrome hardware adds a professional touch without the premium price tag.
