Daryl Hall & John Oates

Daryl Hall & John Oates

Daryl Hall & John Oates, often known simply as Hall & Oates, were an influential American pop rock duo formed in Philadelphia in 1970. Blending rock, soul, and rhythm and blues, they became one of the most successful musical duos in history, achieving their peak fame from the mid-1970s through the late 1980s. Daryl Hall served as the primary lead vocalist, while John Oates contributed guitar and backing vocals; together, they wrote most of their hits. The pair scored 29 Top 40 hits on the Billboard Hot 100, with chart-topping singles such as Rich Girl, Kiss on My List, Private Eyes, I Can't Go for That No Can Do, Maneater, and Out of Touch. Their catalog also includes classics like She's Gone, Sara Smile, and You Make My Dreams. They released several multi-platinum and gold albums and found international success, particularly in the United Kingdom. Hall & Oates often collaborated with talented session musicians and songwriters, including Sara and Janna Allen. Their lasting impact on music was recognized with inductions into both the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Despite ongoing recognition as the most successful duo of all time, in 2024 it was announced that they would no longer perform together due to a legal dispute.
