Caxixis

A caxixi is a small woven percussion instrument filled with seeds or tiny beads. When moved, it creates a dry, rustling rhythm that can sound subtle or more accented depending on the direction of the stroke. It is most closely associated with Brazilian music, capoeira and berimbau playing, yet it also fits naturally into world music, acoustic arrangements and studio effects. When choosing, focus mainly on the size of the basket and the character of the filling: a smaller caxixi responds quickly and sharply, while a larger one feels fuller and softer.
