William Richard Frisell is an acclaimed American jazz guitarist, widely recognized for his innovative style and versatility. Rising to prominence in the 1980s with ECM Records, he became known both as a leader and a sought-after session musician. A key figure in New York’s Downtown Scene, he worked closely with John Zorn and spent many years in Paul Motian’s groups. From the late 1990s onward, Frisell’s music began to blend jazz with folk, country, rock and Americana, earning him critical acclaim, six Grammy nominations and one Grammy win.
