Piano Reduction: Karel Šolc

The piano reduction of the cantata Stabat Mater, composed by Dvořák on the Passion text by Jacopone da Todi from the 13th century for soloists, choir, and orchestra, was prepared by Karel Šolc based on the critical edition of the score. Stabat Mater is among the most sought-after works of its creator, which is no small feat, considering the astonishing richness of the composer's imagination, which produced so many brilliant works. In the Czech Republic, Dvořák's Stabat Mater is an integral part of the Easter celebrations, and it is also frequently performed in concert settings both at home and abroad. The power of this music stems from Dvořák's unwavering faith and piety, which have deep roots in his family and give Dvořák's musical setting of Jacopone di Todi's medieval Passion text an absolute, timeless relevance.
