Audio-Technica BP899 Headset Condenser Microphone

The BP899 is a subminiature omnidirectional condenser headset microphone offering the natural, coloration-free frequency response characteristic of omnidirectional designs, along with Audio-Technica's low-profile boom and ear hook mounting system. Its omnidirectional polar pattern provides consistent sensitivity regardless of the exact capsule angle relative to the mouth, making the BP899 more forgiving of boom positioning variations than cardioid alternatives.

Omnidirectional Pattern Advantages

Omnidirectional microphones typically exhibit a flatter, more extended frequency response than equivalent cardioid designs, particularly in the low frequencies where proximity effect is absent. For broadcast and theatrical voice applications, this results in more natural-sounding pickup with lower coloration from placement variations — an advantage when microphones are worn by non-technical performers who may shift the boom position during a show.

Ear Hook and Boom Design

The flexible ear hook of the BP899 fits comfortably over either ear and holds the boom securely in position during active performance. The subminiature housing at the boom tip is small enough to be inconspicuous in theatrical and television close-up shots, and the adjustable boom length accommodates different face depths for consistent mouth-to-capsule distance.

TA4F Output for Wireless Systems

The BP899 terminates in a TA4F 4-pin mini XLR connector for direct compatibility with Audio-Technica UniMount bodypack transmitters. Its lightweight design and flexible cable reduce physical discomfort during extended wear in live theatre, broadcast, and corporate presentation environments.

Frequency Range

Frequency Range: 20 Hz - 20 kHz

The frequency response 20 Hz - 20 kHz provides a wide enough range to capture all the fine musical and sonic details.

Polar Pattern

Polar Pattern: Omnidirectional

The omnidirectional microphone is designed to pick up sound equally from all directions. Unlike directional microphones such as cardioid or supercardioid, the omnidirectional microphone has no directional bias, which means it is equally sensitive to sound coming from the front, side, and rear.
