4x Speaker Bass Cabinets

Four-speaker bass cabinets are intended mainly for rigs that need extra headroom in a loud rehearsal room or on a larger stage. A larger enclosure takes up more space and usually places greater demands on transport. Speaker count is not the only indicator of volume or tonal character. Compare the cabinet’s power, impedance, dimensions and weight with the capabilities of the amplifier head.

Power and impedance of the complete rig

The impedance of a 4× cabinet must be within the range supported by the amplifier head. If you connect another cabinet, check the resulting load of the entire rig and do not go below the manufacturer’s minimum. Note how much power the head delivers at the selected impedance and compare ratings stated on the same basis.

Plan transport before buying

• Check weight, external dimensions, handles and any wheels.
• Measure the vehicle space, doors and stairs on the way to the rehearsal room.
• Decide whether you will carry the cabinet alone or with help.
• On stage, consider available space and the connection to the PA.

Four speakers make sense where the larger cabinet will actually be used and can be moved safely. For regular gigging, compare technical specifications with the practical demands of transport.
